Savitribai Phule Mahila Ekatma Samaj Mandal (SPMESM) was started as a wing for Social Projects of the well- known Health Organization of Maharashtra- Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Vaidyakiya Pratishthan. (Dr. BAVP.) Dr. BAVP is an umbrella organisation hosting various Health and Educational Institutions like:-

While the initiatives by Dr BAVP were started with the aim to provide quality Health and Health Education services at affordable costs; SPMESM's work was the quest to work on the root causes of Health Issues- Poverty, Unemployment, Social injustice, Gender Inequalities, Agrarian Crisis, and Climate Change Effects. The answers were beyond healthcare and needed much deeper and widespread work with the vulnerable communities in slums and remote rural areas.
